This month, we are focusing on being BRAVE as our character trait. Today, I shared that we would be sharing our ideas about bravery: what it looks like, how it feels to be brave, and how we can share our bravery with others using #Bravetober on Twitter. We brainstormed some unique ways to show that our class is unapologetically brave during Class Meeting!
Last week was a week full of inspiration in our class. We started the week off with an inspiring story of kindness during our Monday Morning Meeting with Mr. Elliott. Our Daily Dose of Awesome inspired our class to work on making a music video. We then were blown away by author Linda Urban visiting our school. Urban discussed the importance of pursuing activities you find fulfilling and perseverance. Some students were so inspired that they wrote emails to Linda Urban as a journal entry in writing this week. Other students were inspired by the amazing lunar eclipse last Sunday night. Those students responded to the question "What would happen if there was an eclipse and the moon didn't come back?"
Later in the week, we worked to find patterns in math. We learned about Pascal and Fibonacci and how they saw patterns in nature and numbers. We also finished editing and publishing our first piece of writing about the topic of our choice. We solidified the rules to Hoy Ball and agreed to play by those rules. We worked to create our class set of guidelines that make us feel safe, comfortable, and cared for in our room. We worked to review routines and came up with an ingenious way to get the attention of the class. By Friday, we were nearing the end of our first iPad activity: to create a slideshow teaching Mrs. A about different QAE traditions. Also, we spent time reviewing genres in literature and discussing our 40 book challenge for the school year, In addition, several students worked hard to research different types of pets for our class pet. Please check out the poll under the Family Communication tab to vote! Homework for the week: 1. Read 30 minutes every night. 2. Math Challenge: Fibonacci sequence in nature (due Thursday) 3. Jog-a-Thon pledges (Jog-a-Thon is FRIDAY OCTOBER 9!) 4. Class Job application (due Friday) |
